GP-6 System Program (Ver.1.07)


How to know the version
Before you start, check the system program version of your GP-6.
  1. Press the [] (Settings) button.
  2. Press the [-] [+] buttons and select "Version".
  3. Press the [] (Enter) button.
  4. The version information is displayed.
    * If this shows the latest version (version 1.07 or later), there's no need to update your GP-6.
  5. Press the [] (Settings) button.

Change the specification
  • The default value for Auto Off has been changed to 20 minutes.

Bug Fixes
The following bugs were fixed.
  • The problem has been corrected in which saved Registration/Piano Tone Edit settings return to default values at startup.
  • The problem has been corrected in which an error occurs when a Registration is loaded from a USB flash drive.
  • The problem has been corrected in which sound stops playing when pedal functioning is set to "Layer".
  • The problem has been corrected in which the file extension becomes ".WAV" when the name of an MP3-format song is changed.

Additional Functions
  • A muffler pedal function has been added.
    Depressing the center pedal when upright piano tone has been selected lets you switch to and enjoy the sound of a felt piano.
    *1 The default value of the "Center Pedal" setting changes from "Sostenuto" to "Muffler/sostenuto".
    *2 If the value of the "Center Pedal" setting you're using is "Sostenuto", it changes to "Muffler/sostenuto".
  • A "Center Pedal Part" setting has been added.
    When Keyboard Mode is "Dual" or "Split", you can specify the part that the center pedal operates.

Functionality Improvements
  • Responsiveness when keys are struck repeatedly in rapid succession has been heightened, enabling play of richer expressiveness.
  • The precision of volume control during light fingering when Concert Piano or Stage Piano tone has been selected has been heightened, enabling play of richer expressiveness.
  • Operation when switching tones has been improved.
Bug Fixes
The following bugs were fixed.
  • The problem has been corrected in which certain operations would produce high-volume noise.
  • The problem has been corrected in which the Piano Reality Headphones Ambience setting could not be made for the upright piano tone.
  • The problem has been corrected in which selecting a rhythm pattern of 2 or after with the metronome function makes correct communication with the Roland Piano App impossible.
  • The problem has been corrected in which simultaneously pressing two Tone buttons when Keyboard Mode is set to "Dual" changes the tone settings for an unselected part.
  • Other minor bugs.

What you will need to update your GP-6
  • GP-6
  • USB flash drive
    * The USB flash drive need to be formatted on a GP-6 or formatted to FAT32 or MS-DOS(FAT) on a computer in advance.
  • A computer with a USB connector (Windows, Mac)
  • Update file downloaded from this page

Cautions with the update
  • We recommend that you save your user data to a USB memory before you perform the update. If a problem occurs and your user data is lost, you will be able to restore the original state by reloading the data you saved. For details on the procedure, refer to the following sections of the Owner's Manual.

  • Never power-off your GP-6 while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the GP-6 won't be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.

Downloading and unarchiving the compressed file
Download the update file (gp6_sys_v107.zip).
It is an archive file in zip format, please double click on the file to expand.
After expanding the file, the folder gp6_sys_v107 holding the file R081_UPA.BIN will be appeared.

Procedure for the update
Creating the Update USB Flash Drive
Copy R081_UPA.BIN to the root directory of a USB flash drive.

Update Procedure
  1. Connect the USB flash drive to the USB Memory port on the instrument.
  2. Press down the power button 3 times quickly.
    The message " === update === " appears on the display, and the update operation starts.
    * When the message " === update === " does not appear on the display and the instrument turns on normally, press and hold the power button to turn off the power and retry the procedure 2 again. Note that try to slow down the speed of pressing down the power button 3 times (press down the power button 3 times in about 2 seconds).
  3. When the message " = update finished. = " appears, the update operation has finished.
    * The update operation takes about 3 minutes.
  4. Press and hold the power button to turn off the power.
    Detach the USB flash drive from the instrument.

This completes the update operation. The new system program becomes active at startup.
