How to tell the version
Please check the version of the system working on your E-A7 before downloading the archive file.
- Press [ Menu ] to invoke the menu screen.
- Press P2 (under the right screen).
- Press Utility (at the left of the screen).
- Press Version (at the left of the screen).
The version information screen appears.

Style additions

* Along with the changes just described, there are styles whose style numbers have changed, but user programs and the like are not affected.

- When switching styles, the style's part level can now be reset.
- While using Style Composer, you can now use the keyboard to specify note values.
- While using Style Composer, you can now use the Octave buttons to specify octave values.
- During pad phrase playback, you can now make playback of the pad phrase stop automatically when the style is switched to the ending.
- A shortcut to the Pad Phrase selection screen was added.
- You can now use the expression pedal to control pad volume level.
- When editing a user tone or drum kit, you can now use the number buttons to specify a number.
- You can now import and export multiple user tones or drum kits as a group.
- When importing a sample, you can now specify a subfolder.
- You can now make a fine-tune setting for each individual user sample.
- You can now use MIDI data to send and receive user scale settings.

Added tones
- The following tones were added.
Tone Number : 1365 - 1375, 1685
- "China" was added to the tone categories. Along with this, the following tones were grouped into the China category.

- * As part of the changes just described, the tone numbers of some tones have changed. MSB, LSB, and PC values have not changed, and so styles, user programs, and the like are unaffected.

The following bugs were fixed.
- When the style is switched, the drum sound sometimes continues playing.
- When Arranger Setting Type is set to EASY, chord recognition sometimes becomes impossible.

Additional Functions
- The maximum number of Wave forms (User Sample) that the E-A7 supports was increased from 512 to 2,048.
* Data (UST, UDK, backups, etc.) created under version 1.06 or earlier can be used under version 1.10. However, data created under version 1.10 cannot be used on an E-A7 unit at version 1.06 or earlier. - The Intro number called up when a User Program is switched can be saved in the User Program.
Bug Fixes
The following bugs were fixed.
- In Makeup Tools, some drum kits are displayed without names.
- When restoring backed-up data, the message "Please enter a valid name" appears and the restore operation cannot be performed. (It is possible that this occurs when the language setting has been changed.)
- The Auto Off function was sometimes actuated during a backup or restore operation, resulting in a cutoff of power.
- When performing a Track Copy operation for a part that uses a drum kit, then depending on the Mode setting of the copy operation, the drum kit sound is out of sync.
- A system freeze sometimes occurs when a chord change is made for a style created using a large number of drum tones.

- Style and Tone items were added.
Style Number : 415-441, 470-509 added* Along with the added Style and Tone items, the Style Number and Tone Number values of items subsequent to the additions have also changed, but there is no change in PC, LSB, and MSB values.

Additional Function
- Selecting whether LWR parts are played during INTRO and ENDING is now possible.
In keeping with this, Lwr w/ Intro ON/OFF was added in the Global parameters.
Bug Fixes
The following bugs were fixed.
- Pressing Value [-] or [+] while the cursor was at End of Track on the Micro Edit screen resulted in a freeze.
- In the [SMF Mark & Jump] parameter value display, '0' was displayed instead of 'OFF'.
- Execution of Insert for Track Edit sometimes failed to finish.
- When overwriting a User Program, a User Program other than the one selected was sometimes overwritten.
This problem occurred when overwriting a User Program was executed after switching the User Program while [Lock] was on (when Style was set to ON by [User Lock Program Setting]). - Pressing a TONE category button during Phrase Rec standby sometimes resulted in display of the message [Can not change. Track is not empty.].
Change in Operation
- The operating conditions were changed for From when using Global Change in Style Composer's Track Edit to change CC00, CC32, or PC.
Before the change: Change to the value specified by To, with separate independent determination of CC00, CC32, and PC
After the change: Change to the value specified by To only as long as all conditions for CC00, CC32, and PC hold true

Additional Functions
- Sync Start for Pad was added to the Assignable Switch and Control Panel (SW) parameters.
- Several Tone Edit and Drum Kit Edit parameters were added.
- A shortcut to the Melody Intelligent settings screen was added to the Option screen on the right.
- Fill recording for the Style Composer was improved to allow a Fill1=2=3=4 settings.
- The mode settings for Track Edit in the Style Composer were improved to allow selecting All.
Functionality Improvement
- The system was modified so that Scale Tune is not applied when a Drum Kit is used in an ACC part.
- The system was modified so that no transposition is done when a Drum Kit is selected in a keyboard part.
- The system was modified so that the default value of the Balance knob is changed from -4 to 0 when adjusting the balance of a keyboard part and style/song part.
Bug Fixes
The following bugs were fixed.
- Behavior sometimes becomes erratic when Track Edit in the Style Composer is executed during style playback.
- When playing a sustained Drum Kit instrument, the sound sometimes does not stop when the Kit is changed.
- Sound drop-out or sluggishness sometimes occurs when a Style is switched during a performance.
- Displaying the Track Mute screen results in delayed screen switching.
- Operation sometimes becomes sluggish when Style Lock or Tempo Lock is set and the UPG is switched.
- Inability to change SMF tone, EQ, etc., using Makeup Tools.
Items to prepare for the update
Following items are required to perform the update.
- E-A7 itself
- PC to write the updater to the USB Flash Memory
- USB Flash Memory ( Roland's M-UF2G is recommended )
* The USB Flash Memory need to be formatted on a E-A7.
Cautions with the update
- Never apply this update data to any product other than the E-A7. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
- Never power-off your E-A7 while the update is in progress!
If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the E-A7 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs. - We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.
How to download and expand the archive file
Please open/extract the downloaded "e_a7_sys_v201.zip" file on your computer to get the update files in the "e_a7_sys_v201" folder.
How to update
Important notice: Never turn the E-A7 off during the update process, or E-A7 won't reboot correctly any more.
Before executing the update to E-A7 version 2.01, be sure to perform a backup.
Updating to E-A7 version 2.01 initializes all User data. Before executing the update, be sure to carry out a backup.
Performing a restore operation after completing the update lets you use the User data after the update.

Step 1: Saving Data to USB Flash Drive (Backup)
- Press the [Menu] button.
The Menu screen appears. - Use the direct buttons to select "Utility."
The Utility screen appears. - Use the direct buttons to select "Backup."
A confirmation message appears. - Press the [F5] (Yes) button.
If you decide to cancel, press the [F1] (No) button.
When the backup has been completed, you return to the Utility screen.
Step 2: Creating the Update USB Memory
- Connect the USB Flash memory to the USB connector of your computer.
- Copy the all update files in the above to the root folder of the USB Flash memory.
* Do not copy the "e_a7_sys_v201" folder. - Disconnect the USB Flash memory from your computer as follows.
[ Windows ]
Use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows task tray to un-mount the USB Flash memory. And then disconnect the USB Flash memory from your computer.
[ Mac ]
Drag the Drive icon of the USB Flash memory into the trash in the dock. And then remove the USB Flash memory from your computer.
Step 3: Update Procedure
- Make sure the unit's power is switched off, then connect the USB Flash Memory device to the USB MEMORY connector.
- Hold down the [ TAP ] button and switch on the power.
- When the message "Update Mode:" appears, release the button.
The update starts.
* The update process takes several minutes to finish. Be sure never to switch off the power before the operation finishes. - When the message "SUCCESS" is displayed, the operation has finished. (You will take about 30 minutes to update.)
- Switch off the power.
- Detach the USB Flash Memory, then switch on the power to the unit and verify that the version has been updated.
Step 4: Restoring Saved Data from USB Memory Back into the E-A7 (Restore)
- Press the [Menu] button.
The Menu screen appears. - Use the direct buttons to select "Utility."
The Utility screen appears. - Use the direct buttons to select "Restore."
A confirmation message appears. - Press the [F5] (Yes) button.
If you decide to cancel, press the [F1] (No) button. - Turn the power of the E-A7 off, then on again.
