HPi-7s Additional Features
Learn about some additional features found in the HPi-7s.
Stunning Piano Sound
The HPi-7s is equipped with Roland’s 88-note concert grand sound, featuring individual multisamples for every key. It’s touch responsive to the subtlest pressure and nuance — from the deepest, most powerful bass to the most delicate high notes.
Authentic Grand-Piano Feel Keyboard
For the most authentic acoustic grand piano feel, the HPi-7s incorporates Roland’s PHA II “Ivory Feel” keyboard with Escapement. This amazing new keyboard technology reproduces the real feel of ivory for the natural keys and ebony for the sharps. It also offers the same natural response as a grand piano, with a heavier touch in the lower range and lighter touch in the upper, and with lighter resistance on pianissimo passages and stronger resistance on fortissimo just like a well-maintained acoustic grand. It even faithfully reproduces the escapement “click feel” of a grand-piano action.
DigiScore notation displayed on the music rest
The DigiScore LCD screen is built right into the music rest for easy viewing. It displays the notation of all internal songs, of commercially available Standard MIDI Files, of music files you download off the internet, or of your own recorded performances. A "Bouncing ball" on the staff helps keep time visually as you play, while the DigiScore "turns the pages" for you. It's perfect for lessons. The HPi-7s's wider display lets you split the screen, to set the metronome while looking at the notation as it plays back, or to show the notation and the lyrics at the same time.
Visual Lesson: your own personal tutor
The Visual Lesson feature acts as your personal interactive music tutor. It has three courses. Each of these includes independent exercises, 10 songs with variable levels, and Practice, Check, and Review screens. Visual Lesson also works with all internal songs, as well as Standard MIDI Files ―so there's literally no limit to the number of songs you can use.
Master the basics of sight reading and fingering: DoReMi Course
By playing along in time with the rhythms shown on the DigiScore notation display, you can learn the duration of notes and rests. You can also ensure that your fingering is correct by consulting onscreen illustrations that show correct fingering for the score. This program, in a game format, allows you to easily improve your fingering skills.
The ideal instrument for creating teaching materials
The HPi-7s's Edit function lets you add optional finger numbering right into the notation, change the length of the song, or edit any note in the music files. And it's easy, because you can do it all while looking at the music. Also, your music file notation can be saved as a bitmap file, which you can print out using your PC.
Twin-Piano Mode for Lessons
Twin-Piano mode is designed for side-by-side lessons or performances with a teacher or duet partner. It enables the keyboard to be split into two parts, each of which covers the same octaves. This makes it easy to see and hear when practicing beside a teacher. In the same way, the left and right pedals can be reassigned to act as damper pedals for either side of the split keyboard. The HPi-7s also has built-in metronomes and recorders, so you can practice with a perfect time reference, and record and listen back to your performances.
Even more educational Wonderland fun for kids
Roland's popular Wonderland section, now with a Flash Card on the HPi-7s, offers 8 educational games designed to help children have fun while learning about music. Kids can choose from 8 entertaining metronome sounds to help encourage them in their lessons. These include: electronic sound, pendulum metronome, human voice, dog, and cat.
A new dimension of learning and teaching with the synergy of Microjazz and HPi
For onboard music data, the HPi-7s includes 50 sampler songs from the acclaimed Microjazz catalog, a world-famous series of pieces based on classical technique yet using popular contemporary styles such as jazz, blues, rock, and funk. Combining Microjazz’s music with the visual lesson features of DigiScore, you can add an exciting interactive dimension to practice and performance.
Audio Song Playback in Any Key for Play-Along Fun
For play-along enjoyment and skill-building experience, the HPi-7s lets you play back songs on CD*. You can even minimize the pre-recorded vocals with the Canter Cancel feature, and transpose the key with a Pitch Change feature. The HPi-7s can also playback audio files (WAV format) and Standard MIDI Files via USB memory.
*To play back from a CD, a USB CD drive is required. CD drive and USB memory re not included.
Easy connectivity and more
The HPi-7s's connectors are conveniently located at the front of the instrument for easy access. It has two headphone jacks, and MIDI and USB ports. The Mic Input with Echo is great for Karaoke. There's also a handy hook for the headphones.
